It was a battle decided at the closing minutes of the game. The team who's got the most gas and firepower at the end, remained unscathed. The Gawad Kalinga Warriors, a cellar dweller team during the previous three Palaro tournaments is about to prove that they are a team to be reckoned with, after a win against Excel PT. GK's Ryan de Gracia contributed almost half of the team's score with 23 points and followed closely by Leo Yanogacio's 12 points. Yanogacio, whose parents are from Pangasinan, commented after the game and said, it was a tough match and we just have to try our best. Other notable assistance were provided by Chris Clemente and Mario Salazar. Will Barnes, with 13 points was the leading scorer of Excel PT and Mark Prout with 8 points. The match up was pretty even until the end, with Team Excel, in spite of being undermanned, provided a very competitive game against the Warriors.

To GKfan3 and all GK fans....In response, team excel did congratulate GK for their HARD EARNED WIN, last saturday...it was never indicated that excel hated or was even MAD at GK or any team in the league...what i did want to make clear was the HORRIBLE OFFICIATING...i love GK for the moves that they made off season; it shocked the whole tournament to be frank(even the PAAD committee admitted that they made a unexpected mistake with the way they divided up the teams)...and i'm truly happy for them surging to where they are...I also know that they will take the trophy home at the end of this tournament....however GK fans did expect excel was to be a push over, and to quote your lovely fans: excel isn't gonna know wat hits them; gk by 16, etc..but to there surprise excel did have an answer for them, for every minute of the game...unfortunately for excel, bad OFFICIATING at the closing minutes of(of a playoff bound chance team) the game made the difference....with regards to the comment: of that even barnes isnt ever taken out/or that there is no sport where every gets to play, is truly absurd...if you want to play your whole roster, you can play them...if you watch excel games, everybody on that bench plays, may it be 1 min or 10mins....they get in...to take out barnes the franchise player of the team is off tangent again...he his their work horse, so he is expected to play every minute of the game....again i give praises to GK, but not to the BAD OFFICIATING.....unfortunately my GK friends i cannot jump on the bandwagon....i'll still stay with my boys: TEAM EXCEL, which GK sent home....as kenny smith and chuckie would say: excel has GONE FISHIN...
the game def. lived up to the hype. excel put forth a great effort and did push us a little bit in the first half. during halftime, we made the necessary adjustments and outscored them by 12 in the 2nd half. i feel that the officiating went both ways, leo was getting hacked quite a bit down there and there were several times that calls weren't made.
leo was being much more aggressive than barnes and was putting himself in positions to draw more fouls.. whereas barnes was relying more on his midrange. the excel big men were hard-pressed to play honest defense and thus all got into foul trouble.
but yeah.. the game was very well played and i feel that excel left their hearts on the floor against us. however, at the end of the day, the cream always rises to the top.
Same here.. i didnt say anything that i hate GK or i dont like GK.. actually i admire them because they are so good, athletic and all. what im trying to say is why dont you let your bench play? are you scared or not trusting them... i believe that the BENCH is the Original GK Warriors, so why dont you give them sometime to enjoy the game, not by sitting but playing? or maybe its your rotation and strategy..not to let them play, i do respect that.

I have no favorites here.I have watched GK play as well as the other teams.I did see the original GK players play against the defending champion RED BULL and the talented PINOY.I guess it was their game plan not to be in the court against EXCEL because of the sizes of these players.But youre right about Valenciano,i wanna see him in person too.Peace to all !
I agree with neutral here.Ang lalaki ng mga taga EXCEL,eh ang pinakamalaki ng GK hanggang leeg lang ni Barnes.I believe the original GK players got skills too because they have played with the other teams;but reality check man,masyadong matatangkad,malalaki at magagaling ang mga players ng EXCEL.That's all folks!

I don't want to take away anything from the GK Warriors, I think they played a consistent game and deserved the hard-earned win.
But whoa... the calls were just horrendous that at times momentum changed in favor of the warriors.
As I said, I predicted that Excel will win with Barnes playing the full game. But I didn't expect officiating will be key to this game.
No offense to GKW, I know they have lots of fans. I'm just expressing my opinion and I may be wrong (but not all the time.)

I would like to congratulate EXCEL PT for their superb performance. Their excellent defense and wonderful execution on their offense make me worried for a while. GKW have a big respect on EXCEL PT because of their unquestionable sportsmanship inside and outside the court. To EXCEL PT, we (GKW) won the game but we both went home victorious.
It was not my plan to use only eight players that Saturday. I always plan to utilize all my players every game. EXCEL PT is very talented team. At first, I tried to much them up by using my four taller players but it didn’t work. Until our BENCH suggested that we need to put a point guard to set up plays and we did. The deGuzman brothers really did a good job neutralizing everybody. Only eight players played that game but we have FOURTEEN coaches contributing for the GKW’s fourth win. To the BENCH of GKW thank you.

On GK/Excel game, yeah there are calls that should be made but didn't. I think it happened on both sides.
Looking at the Excel record, I would say that GK would definitely made a run BUT whoaa, ganda ng laro ng Excel. It was an even match, kaya lang after the second half when GK started to play fast, some of Excel players are already exhausted and thats when the lead started to widen.
Overall well played.
AND ALSO, its the decision of the COACH/TEAM captain who should play or not. Its their decision and must be respected. Their main objective is to win the game or just enjoy it.
If they lose, yeah blaming I guess is ok but if they are winning, DO NOT TELL THEM WHAT TO DO!

I noticed that Titans and GK are the only team that has more than 12players that shows up every game so sometime its fair that not all can play on the 40 minute game(with running clock). And I think the benchwarmer knew that there is no guarantee of playing but they still come to support the team.

Well, i'm the few lucky people that got a chance to meet and watch him play.
I saw him played once, I think against Red Bulls, and man, he can really shoot.
I think he is kinda Prima Donna, because he immediately stop playing
after a couple of minutes on the court.
He was in Florida for a couple of weeks for some tournament, that's why you can't see him lately.
I think the coach is just reserving him for the finals or championsip. Only when needed.
